Look around your house. Are you seeing stacks of papers that you keep meaning to go through? Boxes and files bulging with stuff you put there for safe-keeping, but couldn’t find what you need if your life depended on it. Don’t worry, we won’t judge, it’s the exact overload we were facing that made us think there has to be a better way.
Wouldn’t be amazing if you could store information you needed to remember in one place and more importantly, find it instantly, anytime, from anywhere. Good news! It exists, and it is a total game-changer.
Meet Evernote— it's like a digital filing cabinet for your life. If you can email it, scan it, type it, snap it, record it, or find it on the internet you can keep track of it all with Evernote.
You won’t believe how simple it is to use, watch the video then forget about forgetting important information ever again
What's the most important thing you've ever needed to find... but couldn't?

Loved the pics!
And I'm off to give evernote another try. Thanks C!
Carley Knobloch says:
Sarah and Jennifer— Let me (and the other twirlers) know if you hit roadblocks. Sometimes apps that can do "anything" feel overwhelming, but the key is to just get started with one notebook, and go from there.
Happy twirls!

Thank you so much for this! You have no idea how long I've been trying to figure out how to use Evernote. I just never sat down to do it. Now I can't wait to really use it!
Ponn Sabra says:
It's going to be a bit of a learning curve, but I could really use a 2nd brain. We travel and move so much, I have bits here & there, where I can find things that need to be thrown away, and the important stuff being lost. Loved this debut Digitwirl! Thanks.
CKnobloch says:
So glad you're liking! Let us know what you're using it for. enjoy!

So glad you're using Evernote. It's kinda addictive. I've got a bunch of notebooks now, for everything! Have fun, and let us know if you have questions!

I love EVERNOTE... no more 100's of tabs open on my computer and now I know more - thank you for this tip!!! AWESOME
CKnobloch says:
It really does give you a place to "park" the stuff you want to remember later. So glad you're loving it!
Delia says:
well now I don't have to save all my "stickies" on my desktop . . . what a fabulous thing! I am so glad I found you!
CKnobloch says:
Delia— Yes, stickies might be just about the most frustrating system. Especially when they fall behind the desk and "stick" just about halfway down so you can't... quite... reach... (speaking from personal experience here).
So glad you found us too!
Richard Featherstone says:
Evernote is okay. I think most folks will find that Springpad is even more user friendly; and it's storage space is more generous.
I think digitwirl is a pretty clever concept, by the way.
CKnobloch says:
Richard— Why, thank you! So glad you found us! Springpad is fantastic too, and yes, they're very similar. We're looking forward to covering Springpad in the future so that our audience knows about both. Thanks for sharing.

Cathy: Probably not— it hasn't been a family name for very long. but it does endlessly amuse anyone who knows how to speak German.

I love this video (and your whole site). I've been found myself recommending Evernote & Digitwirl constantly lately! In light of our latest spate of natural disasters, I thought I'd mention another use for Evernote: Snap photos of items in your home that you will have to replace/declare to insurance if disaster strikes & send to Evernote. And make sure to store your insurance info on Evernote as well. You will have access to this info from anywhere. This could prove invaluable!
CKnobloch says:
K.A.— Brilliant use case. Great for any kind of emergency information— your AAA membership, local tow trucks... the list goes on.
Meloney says:
I really am interested in using evernote, but for some reason I feel overwhelmed with what exactly to use it for! I am always writing notes and lists etc! I am sure it would be helpful if I would just start! I guess that's the problem where to start!!
CKnobloch says:
Meloney— it's great for so many things, but the most valuable thing for YOU might be something I'd never dream up. My best advice is to think of your biggest headache— when are you smacking your head, wishing you could remember something? Do you often find yourself without a certain piece of information, or out on the go, wishing you had access to a file on your computer, or a file folder in your home office? That's a good place to start. Lisa says:
LOVE Evernote, now I get to sleep through the night instead of waking up at 4am reviewing my "must not forgets"
Evernote is the ultimate brain dump I use in all areas of my life from busy Mom, entrepreneur and great friend who never forgets a birthday.
CKnobloch says:
Lisa— So true! And I think the more you use it, the more you end up using it for different things. It really is my frontal lobe.
Julia says:
Hi -- I love Evernote but all of a sudden, Evernote doesn't love me. Or maybe it's just my iPad. Have been using the app for a little while, then after I installed the most recent app update, it is completely ker- pluie. My notes are saved on the general Evernote site through the Internet but for the life of me I can't get the iPad app to work. Have tried rebooting the iPad and deleting then reinstalling the appnitself. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?
CKnobloch says:
Julia— I'm going to have an Evernote peep swing by the comments and see if he can help you. Hang tight!
Ron Toledo says:
@Julia, Sorry to hear your iPad isn't synching correctly. The best thing to do is contact our support team who can help you get it all sorted out. http://www.evernote.com/about/contact/support/
Thanks again for using Evernote and apologies for any inconvenience.
Tawnya says:
@Julia - Do contact Evernote support. I contacted them concerning their Blackberry app, and they sent me an update that works great. I was so surprised to hear back from them, and, they fixed my problem!
Jesse says:
Your video and the article really helped me figure out exactly how I wanted to use Evernote! Thank you! I love the *idea* of a lot of techie things, but if I sit down and it takes more than 2 minutes to figure out, I quickly lose patience. You inspired me to take more than my usual 2 minutes and get started. Nothing is safe from my scanner and Evernote, now!
CKnobloch says:
Jesse— So glad you took the time... we give ourselves so many excuses for why it WON'T work, it's so confidence-building when it actually does! Good luck with all your scanning.
Bryann Robinson says:
This video is what finally pushed me over the edge to try Evernote. Now, I have no idea how I went so long without out. You're not kidding when you say it's like having a second brain! I'm in LOVE! *geekgasm* THANK YOU!
CKnobloch says:
Bryann— So glad to have helped you, er, reach "geekgasm". (awkward).

Rich says:
I just started using EverNote for my personal GTD (Getting Things Done) system. I found a website called http://www.thesecretweapon.org which details how to set EverNote up for GTD. For best results check out the book (same title) by David Allen.
BTW, I loved your tips about scanning into EverNote with the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500. I'm going to order that scanner. I've used GTD to control the paper monster for the last 5 years at work and now need to invest that energy at home too.
I'm thinking DigiTwirl is pretty cool too! I'm sending the link to my wife!
CKnobloch says:
Rich— Thanks for sharing. I LOVE David Allen and GTD and I know there's a big population that uses EN to help them "get things done."
Rich says:
Update: I got the scanner and love it. Setup is a snap (er pardon the pun) and it's performance has been wonderful. It just occurred to me that I need a cloud backup service before I get too far down the paperless path. Hey! Sounds like that could be twirlable! (is that a word?) PC Mag seems high on SOS Backup. I'll have to check that out.
Cheers All!
CKnobloch says:
Rich— You could keep duplicates in a service like Evernote, so you have them with you everywhere. Dropbox or Carbonite are great options too. Hope that's helpful!
Abbie Allen says:
Thanks for your great videos Carley! I downloaded Evernote on my iPad when I first got it but didn't really touch it. It wasn't until I watched your video that I realised how I could really start to use it. You have inspired me to go Paperless and I am going to start blogging about my Paperless Quest to share with my readers how I am going. It will be interesting, but it is Evernote that I am going to use as my basis. Thank you! I have gone through quite a few of your videos, and I may have missed something, but I wonder if you have any other iPhone or iPad apps you use in conjunction with Evernote to really get the best out of it? Or don't you need anything else? Thanks
CKnobloch says:
Abbie— So great! I love that we've turned you on to such a wonderful product. I'll be sure to read your blog posts and see how you're doing on your paper diet. RE: Evernote— I really just use the web clipper and the email address to forward things to Evernote. I do like their new "food" app that makes it easy to add meals you want to remember, if that's your thing. Thanks for sharing!
