Oh sure, your electric toothbrush, toaster and TV look innocent enough, but do you realize they’re robbing you blind? It’s true! In fact all your electronics are pulling power even when they’re not on. Which means you’re paying for a lot of electricity unnecessarily.
We found the perfect solutions. First the Belkin Conserve Socket which shuts off the electricity when you’re done toasting your toast, brewing your coffee or charging your phone. Second, the Belkin Conserve Smart AV, a power strip so smart it stops your TV, stereo and gaming system from drawing energy when you're not using them, but keeps your DVR and cable box on so you won’t miss any of your favorite shows. What will those Kardashians do this week?
Watch this week’s Twirl and watch Carley destroy all the energy sucking vampires around her house, no wooden stake required.

Could you direct us to an article that tells us about how much money we spend each year on running these appliances. Does it really work out moneywise by the time we buy all these energy savers - and what is their life span?
Jami says:
I don't know exact cost/savings but 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics & appliances is consumed while products are off. We started unplugging anything easy to reach, like the toaster, coffee maker, chargers, etc, years ago & we could tell the difference in our bill, right away.

Jami— Yes, isn't that extraordinary? I imagine outlets in the future that will know how to kill power to things that are plugged in that aren't turned on, but for now, we have great products like this that do the work for us. Thanks for sharing your tips.

Great ideas! I'm hangin' with you -- I used your recommendations to save my cell phone battery, and I went from having to charge it halfway throughout the day to only charging once a day!! Maybe my electrical savings will be as terrific!
By the way, Beklin also has a conserve valet charging stations for mobil devices, and you can get it for about $7 less on Amazon, with free shipping if you're an Amazon prime member. Just sayin! Thanks for the twirls!!!

This is great! Never even thought about how much it takes for the iPhone to be plugged in all day. I'm always up for saving money on electricity. Thanks for another great video.
CKnobloch says:
Angie— I'll never look at my phone chargers the same way again.

We've been getting some questions on twitter asking how much money this powerstrip can save you. According to Belkins FB page the powerstrip will provide you with a validated energy savings of 77% a year!!
liz says:
I would rather here from an independent source how much energy savings there is for each appliance that is plugged in.

Liz— This page has a great chart where you can do the math in your own home: http://www.srpnet.com/energy/powerwise/savewithsrp/EnergyVampires.aspx
And here's another table: http://standby.lbl.gov/summary-table.html
Hope that's helpful!

While I totally get that the wall warts (power converters for cell phones, laptops, etc) and instant-on devices always use electricity, I don't understand why a toaster oven like our old one would draw any power when it's not on.
I've been using power-saver strips from another manufacturer on our home computer (controlling the speakers and monitor, etc) and another for our stereo for a couple years and they work great. I even have a separate power strip plugged into the computer one to handle all the wall warts.
Thanks for the tip.
CKnobloch says:
Stew— if it has a tiny little clock on it, like mine, it's drawing power.

I always unplug my phone charger, coffee pot, toothbrush charger, & I even got the kids unplugging the toaster but I NEED that power strip for my entertainment center! I tried to shut the strip off but it's not easy to reach. :0/ Thanks for the tip!
CKnobloch says:
Jami— yes, it's not too realistic to be unplugging your entire entertainment center every time you shut off your TV... especially if you want your DVR to record the next episode of SMASH... so this helps a lot.
Jami says:
LOL We don't even have Cable (just 2-13), let alone a DVR! That saves us a good $50 a month or more but we do have Netflix! I'll definitely be buying this power strip.
I love your tips & videos!
