If ever there was a catchword in the tech-o-sphere it’s Cloud Computing. You’ve probably found yourself nodding knowingly when it comes up in conversation, but really thinking, what the heck is The Cloud?
Leave it to your Twirlfriends to de-mystify what is actually a very simple concept. For instance, for those of you who think “I’d never trust my information to the cloud” well guess what, you’re doing it right now. Email, photo sharing sites, even our Twirls are stored off-site and in Cloud servers so not only will they not clog up your computer, but they’ll can also be accessed from anywhere.
“Is it safe?” Cloud providers take the security of your information very seriously. Think mega-military-grade encryption... just do your part and be smart about your passwords. If you want some help with that check out our Lastpass Twirl.
For now watch this Twirl all about “The Cloud” and be the one waxing knowledgeable at your next social gathering.

Thanks for the simple explanation. Can I put your video on MyTripFile.com to explain cloud storage? Travelers and Travel Agents use the cloud to store travel documents for their clients and I think some of them are still trying to figure out why it is important.
Thanks!

I just signed up for dropbox a few months ago. I don't get how the cloud and dropbox are different? help! Thx!
CKnobloch says:
Elena— Yeah! So glad you found Dropbox! So, Dropbox is one of many cloud companies, because it stores your files on an off-site server (ie. NOT on your computer) and you can access them from anywhere. So whatever you put on dropbox is in your "virtual locker" and doesn't take up space on your hard drive. Hope that makes sense... let me know if it doesn't!
Elena says:
Gotcha! So the cloud is a concept and not a company. Makes sense now. Thanks!

Elena— Eureka!

I am currently using Evernote for the same function. Would you recommend Dropbox over Evernote, and why?
CKnobloch says:
Denise— They have a lot of overlap and a lot of differences. Hard to say which is preferred without knowing what you use them for. Dropbox is great for "storage locker" functionality. Files, photos, media... just handy to have it available anywhere. Evernote is more about memories, things you might want to read and remember from anywhere. Great for storage too... but different. I adore both services and use them both almost every day.

I LOVE your videos! I am a huge fan!!! I help with technology integration at my job which is working for a public school as a public school teacher. I create online slide presentations using sliderocket and share with staff throughout our entire school district. I am currently a middle school teacher, soon to be high school teacher (one week....I switch jobs) and also an adjunct college professor...
.here is a link to one of my presentations that I have utilized some of your videos to train staff. http://portal.sliderocket.com/APCCX/Technology-101
I like your style, you are relatable, brief and not to mention cute and hip!
(Not like some of those other boring tech tutorials on youtube.)
CKnobloch says:
Julia— We don't publish the videos to YouTube right instantly, but it's there now. Thanks so much for including our videos in your presentations. So glad we can help teach teachers!

Great videos! Wondering if you know if I store photos in a cloud - can access them for use with photo organizing software (like Adobe Bridge) which just lets you tag and organize them without them ever leaving their original site.

Wish you could have been at our Cloud Fair conference in Seattle this week. We were missing some smart fun women, but it was still quite awesome. Maybe next year?
